This means that the CMF does not exert permanent supervision over them. Dealing with unregistered or unauthorized entities poses a risk to the public and investors. Therefore, the CMF recommends that individuals exercise caution when interacting with them.
The CMF also recommends that individuals always seek more information about the products, individuals, and companies they are considering investing in or receiving advice from before making an investment.
Specifically, they can take the following actions to avoid potential scams:
- Check the CMF website to confirm whether the relevant company is registered in Chile and supervised by the CMF, and which parties are responsible for its management.
- Use popular Internet search engines to identify any complaints or negative feedback about the company or person, e.g., by name, directors, and the products being considered for investment.
The Commission also reminds the public that interested parties can verify on the CMF website whether an entity or person offering financial products or services is supervised by the CMF; check alerts issued by the CMF and other foreign regulators on unregulated entities or activities; and other important advice for the protection of investors, policyholders, and financial clients.
