Closing ceremony of Financial Inclusion and Education Month

CMF Chairwoman Catherine Tornel: “Our challenge as a county is advancing towards an effective financial inclusion that significantly impacts people’s financial wellbeing”

The Chairwoman of the CMF highlighted that Chile has good financial access indices - mainly due to access to payment accounts - but remarked that it is necessary to continue moving forward in the access to and use of other products like savings, loans, and insurance.

She also called to speed up progress in financial education by changing behaviors and making financial products and services contracted and used safely, responsibly, and knowingly.

October 30, 2026 - The Financial Market Commission (CMF) held today the closing ceremony of Financial Inclusion and Education Month at the Top Management Auditorium of the Administration Department of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Chile. Representatives of international organizations; public and private institutions; universities, teachers and students; and CMF staff participated in the event.

In her opening words, CMF Chairwoman Catherine Tornel stated that even though a large part of the Chilean population has access to basic financial products - especially cash management and payment accounts - there are pending challenges when it comes to inclusion.

"Our challenge as a county is advancing towards an effective financial inclusion. We must continue moving forward in the access to and use of other financial products like savings, loans, and insurance to significantly impact people's financial wellbeing. Likewise, we need to speed up progress in financial education by changing behaviors and making financial products and services contracted and used safely, responsibly, and knowingly," stated Tornel before adding that this challenge is directly connected to the CMF's Market Development Mandate.

In this line, Chairwoman Tornel highlighted the release of the Financial Inclusion Indices Viewer, which "allows for a better understanding of how people participate in the financial system, identifying gaps, and having evidence available to better focus our work - but also in coordination with the public and private sectors."

She especially thanked SENAMA, SENADIS, Sello Mayor, universities, and the different institutions and organizations that have cooperated with the CMF throughout the year in matters of financial inclusion and education.

Financial Education Panel

The event featured a panel discussion on the importance of institutional cooperation to move financial education forward in Chile. Moderated by Marjorie Arias, senior analyst of Market Development of the CMF, it featured National SENAMA Director Muriel Abad; Elige Educar Executive Director Verónica Cabezas; IDB Sector Economics Advisor for Institutions Verónica Frisancho; and Pamela Searle, Director of Market Development of the CMF.

After the panel discussion came the award ceremony for the CMF's musical videos contest "Finanzas con Ritmo," which highlighted the work of three groups of Instituto Santa María (INSAMA) in San Carlos, Ñuble. Luciana Ortega, who has been awarded a Latin Grammy for her contributions to musical education, emceed the ceremony.

Finally, the ceremony highlighted and recognized the work of academic coordinators for different universities that are part of the CMF's Financial Literacy Monitors Training Program.
