Diego Peralta to take office as General Legal Director of the CMF

May 18, 2026 - The Financial Market Commission (CMF) announces that Diego Peralta Valenzuela will take office as General Legal Director of the CMF on June 1, 2026 after winning the post through a public competition.

Diego Peralta holds a law degree from the University of Chile and currently serves as a partner and co-leader of the banking and finance group at Carey, a prominent law firm where he has worked since 1996.

Mr. Peralta specializes in creating and structuring financial products and financing arrangements for both providers and recipients of financing; company acquisitions and divestitures; issuing and placing debt and equity securities both domestically and internationally; and financial regulatory matters.

Early in his career, the new General Legal Director worked at the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic and later served as General Counsel for Citicorp and Citibank in Chile (1985). Mr. Peralta currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Chilean Capital Market.

Mr. Peralta is also a founder and former board member of InBest Chile, as well as a member of its Advisory Board and the Arbitration Panel of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce. He served as a director of the Chilean Bar Association and the Legal Committee of the Association of Banks and Financial Institutions. In 2015, Mr. Peralta was part of the working group analyzing Chile's new General Banking Act and served as a member of the Commission on New Commercial Codification during 2016 and 2017.

He has received international recognition through prestigious accolades from organizations such as Chambers and Partners, The Legal 500, Latin Lawyer, and IFLR1000.
