CMF sanctions insurance companies for selling policies through unenrolled brokers, sales agents

The CMF fined each company UF 100.

March 6, 2026 - The Board of the Financial Market Commission (CMF) sanctioned Compañía de Seguros de Vida Consorcio Nacional de Seguros S.A. with a fine of UF 100.

Per Resolution No. 2,224, said company sold some insurance through sales agents that were not enrolled in the Registry of Insurance Sales Agents, and insurance brokers whose listings in the Registry of Insurance Trade Auxiliaries had been cancelled. This breaches both Articles 57 and 58 of Decree with Force of Law No. 251 (Insurance Law) and General Rule No. 471.

Per Resolution No. 2,234, the Board also fined Metlife Chile Seguros de Vida S.A. UF 100 for selling some insurance between June 2022 and June 2025 through sales agents that were not enrolled in the Registry of Insurance Sales Agents. This breaches both Article 57 of the Insurance Law and General Rule No. 471. The company also failed to include a mandatory statement, pursuant to Circular Letter No. 2,123, in some enrollment proposals for collective insurance.

According to current rules and regulations, companies can only sell insurance either directly, through brokers, or through sales agents enrolled in Registries kept by the CMF.
