February 17, 2026 - The Board of the Financial Market Commission (CMF) sanctioned Seguros Generales Suramericana S.A. for selling policies through sales agents not enrolled in the Registry of Insurance Trade Auxiliaries.
Per Resolution No. 1,771, the company was fined UF 100 after breaching the provisions of both Article 57 of Decree with Force of Law No. 251 (Insurance Law) and General Rule No. 471 when it sold at least 5,349 policies between July 2023 and June 2025 through at least 155 sales agents who were not enrolled in said Registry.
For companies to market insurance through sales agents, the latter must be enrolled in the Registry prior to beginning their activities. This is because insurance companies are bound by the imperative of selling insurance only through duly authorized agents, which did not happen in this case.
