CMF sanctions insurance company for operating with unenrolled brokers

February 5, 2026 - The Board of the Financial Market Commission (CMF) sanctioned Compañía de Seguros de Crédito Continental S.A. for selling policies through insurance brokers not enrolled in the Registry of Insurance Trade Auxiliaries.

Per Exempt Resolution No. 1,447, the company was fined UF 200 after breaching the provisions of Articles 57 and 58 of Decree with Force of Law No. 251 (Insurance Law) when it sold at least 124 policies between January 2021 and February 2025 through insurance brokers whose listings in said Registry were cancelled.

Insurance companies are obligated to check in the public Registry whether parties acting as brokers effectively have such status when selling policies since they are bound by the imperative of selling insurance only through duly authorized brokers, which did not happen in this case.
