February 3, 2026 - The Financial Market Commission (CMF) releases the first assessment of claims reported regarding the fires that affected the Ñuble and Biobío Regions. These figures refer to the first six days of the emergency, i.e., claims filed between January 17 and 23, 2026, and should therefore be considered a preliminary assessment of the impact of the fires and management of reported and settled claims.
For general insurance companies, 215 claims were filed for damage to homes; 76 for damage to vehicles; and 30 for damage to other property, totaling 321 claims. 317 of these correspond to the Regions declared as disaster areas (Ñuble and Biobío), and four claims were filed in the O'Higgins and Maule Regions.
As for amounts, claims reported to general insurance companies between January 17 and 23, 2026 totaled CLP 104,464,000.
According to reports from general insurance companies, 316 of the claims received (98.44 percent of the total) are already being settled as of January 23.
Four claims were filed in the case of life insurance companies, all of which correspond to the Biobío Region and are currently being processed.
The CMF instructed insurance companies to take all necessary measures to assist affected policyholders in reporting and settling their claims, and if any branch of a company is unable to operate, take measures to maintain adequate service. In addition, the CMF reminds citizens that they can check online, and free of charge, whether they have insurance on the Know Your Insurance platform.
