The CMF reports a balance on claims reported and settled for fires in the Valparaíso Region

As of March 8, 2024, there were 1,268 reported incidents in general insurance companies, of which 47% have already been settled, and 53% are in the process of settlement. The CMF reminds citizens that in insurance associated with mortgage loans, the insured amount will correspond to the appraisal value of the property and not just the outstanding balance of the debt.

March 20, 2024 - "The Financial Market Commission (CMF) reports on the information provided by insurance companies regarding the fires that affected the Valparaíso Region. According to the data collected until March 8, general insurance companies have reported a total of 1,268 incidents, the majority (691) related to damages to residential properties, followed by vehicle damage (398) and other types of damage (179).

By municipalities, the reports are mainly concentrated in Viña del Mar and Quilpué.

Settlements of claims

Out of the total reported incidents, 596 have been settled to date, accounting for 47% of the total claims received by general insurance companies. The remaining 53% are still in the process of settlement.

It is worth noting that settlement is the process by which the occurrence of the incident is determined, whether it is covered by an insurance policy, and the compensation or payment if applicable."

On the other hand, as of the present date, there are 67 reports in life insurance companies, 79% of which have already been settled.
