CMF Chairmowan Solange Berstein attended the 2023 IOSCO Annual Conference

The meeting was held in Bangkok, Thailand.

June 20, 2023 - Solange Berstein, Chairwoman of the Financial Market Commission (CMF), attended the Annual Conference of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) held in Bangkok, Thailand, last week. IOSCO is the international body that brings together the world's securities regulators to develop, implement, and promote compliance with global standards for securities regulation.

On Tuesday, Chairwoman Berstein was present at meetings of IOSCO's Inter-American Regional Committee and the Growth and Emerging Markets Committee. Her program continued Wednesday with working meetings on "Cryptoassets: Same Activities, Same Risks, Same Regulatory Outcomes" and "Building Healthy and Efficient Sustainable Financial Markets."

The forthcoming publication of global standards for ESG reporting by the International Sustainability Accounting Board (ISSB) was discussed at these meetings. IOSCO may eventually subscribe to these standards, an important step towards having a coherent international approach that allows the adequate dissemination of information for investors to make decisions. Solange Berstein shared Chile's progress in the implementation of General Rule No. 461, which is aligned with the standards contained in the draft versions of the ISSB.

The Chairwoman also participated as a panelist in the session titled "Building Central Counterparties in Emerging Markets". Berstein said that Chile's regulations and supervisory processes for Central Counterparties adopted international standards from the outset, and highlighted cybersecurity as a priority issue in market infrastructure supervision.

On Thursday, Solange Berstein attended the IOSCO Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding Monitoring Group Meeting and the OECD-IOSCO Working Round on "Corporate Debt Sustainability in a Rising Rate Environment: Implications for Capital Markets." She also held bilateral discussions and meetings with senior officials of regulators from different jurisdictions, including the Italian securities regulator, the Commissione Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa (CONSOB). Various topics of interest to the CMF were discussed, such as Fintech, Suptech and Sustainability, among others.

Berstein's activities culminated on Friday with her attendance at the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand Conference titled "Envisioning the Next Horizon: A Path to the Connected Future of Capital Markets".
