Mrs. Solange Berstein takes office as Chairwoman of the Financial Market Commission

April 11, 2022 - The Financial Market Commission (CMF) announces that Mrs. Solange Berstein Jáuregui took office today as the new Chairwoman of its Board.

Mrs. Berstein holds a PhD in Economics from Boston University; a Master's degree in Economics from the Ilades/Georgetown University Program; and a degree in Commercial Engineering from Universidad de Santiago. The new Chairwoman has a distinguished professional and academic career - prior to joining the Commission, she headed the Financial Policy Management Division of the Central Bank of Chile from 2017 to 2022.

Berstein was Superintendent of Pensions from 2006 to 2014 and Senior Pension Specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank, as well as a consultant for the World Bank and Senior Economist at the Research Division of the Central Bank of Chile. She has authored several economic publications and participated as a speaker in several national and international forums and conferences. In the academic field, Berstein has been a master's professor at Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Chairwoman Berstein held this morning her first meeting with the Board of the CMF, consisting of Deputy Chairman Kevin Cowan and Commissioners Bernardita Piedrabuena, Mauricio Larraín, and Augusto Iglesias. She subsequently met with the Commission's General Directors.

"A fundamental condition to recover economic growth and improve people's quality of life is having a financial market that works adequately"," the Chairwoman stated after taking office. "The solvency of institutions, transparency with their investors, and good treatment of their clients and users are priority objectives for the CMF", she added.
